     Welcome to Lake Berryessa Alternatives.
The purpose of this web site is to suggest alternative lakes, rivers and locations for those families at Lake Berryessa who may be displaced by the redevelopment of Lake Berryessa, and want to explore other vacation options near the Bay Area.  We do this so others can see there ARE alternatives for them so they can continue the lifestyle, it just might not be at the same lake.   For example, photos to the right show Snug Harbor Resorts, LLC a privately owned California Delta marina and RV park that has covered berths and waterfront RV sites with docks right in front.  There are also various sizes of vacation rentals if you don't have an RV.

Land and water use are clearly the "hot topics" for California now and for the future.  We've finally come to realize that fresh water is a precious resource that is limited and must be protected if we hope to keep environmental balances in our amazing state.  Two of the water resources in California have moved to the front of the debates:  Lake Berryessa and the California Delta Region.

Lake Berryessa:  In the case of Lake Berryessa, the land surrounding the lake is government-owned land under the BOR or Bureau of Reclamation.  The current major dispute seems to be between the families who have rented mobile home sites at the lake, and BOR and other governmental agencies who say the trailers should not be there.  In 2004 there were 7 concessionaire companies running 7 marina/resorts on the lake, with leases that expire over the next few years.  As the leases expire, the mobile home sites may be changed to other uses.  In addition, BOR seems to indicate they will contract with just one concessionaire, and will require all facilities to upgrade to current safety and fire codes.

California Delta:  In the California Delta Region, most of the islands, farmlands, marinas, RV parks and resorts are all located on privately-owned land, so there are not so many restrictions on use like is being proposed for the BOR lands around Lake Berryessa.  The delta region seems to be a perfect alternative for those persons who might have their vacation home settings disrupted by the upcoming changes to Lake Berryessa.  The Delta has also become a main focus of news articles since the Jan 1 flooding of Sacramento area.  Finally, state officials are paying attention to the need to strengthen the levee system that contains the waters of the delta, which in turn provides 2/3 of the drinking water for this state.

Depending on how Lake Berryessa is redeveloped over the next several years, many of the families that currently own vacation home-trailers may need to consider alternative locations for their vacations.  Listed are other recreational waterways and lakes of California that may have available waterfront trailer sites or other similar setups for those families who want to continue to enjoy 'permanent' trailer sites on privately owned land rather than dealing with BOR and other government agencies.

The California Delta Region is featured here because the amenities provided in the California Delta most closely match the amenities enjoyed by the leaseholders of permanent trailer lots at Lake Berryessa over the last 40 to 50 years.  The major difference is that the delta resorts are all PRIVATELY OWNED so the issues of BOR land management do not apply.
